Job Summary

This position will split their time between the Planning Section and the Meters Section. With the Planning Section, the role will be to assist in the collection of parking occupancy and parking inventory data, and recording the data collected from parking studies and parking surveys. With the Meters Section, the role will be to provide sanitation support in the appearance and upkeep of the City’s parking meters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Parking Planning Role:

  • Collects parking utilization counts with other staff members or by self in various parts of the city at various times of the day and week either in a motor vehicle or on foot and records the data in spreadsheets;
  • Measures on-street curb sections typically on foot in various parts of the city at various times, determines linear curb that can be parked, and records the data in spreadsheets;
  • Surveys areas for curbside loading activity; parking meter usage compliance; and issuance of parking citations;
  • Helps with drafting data collection spreadsheets and recommends changes as needed;
  • Ensures the data is collected and recorded correctly by double checking work;
  • Maintains open communication with peers as well as management on tasks;
  • Willingness to work evenings and Saturdays periodically;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Parking Meters Role:

  • Clean and inspect for graffiti on all Pay-by-Plate (PBP) and Single Space (SS) meters in the daily assigned area in accordance with PABC health and safety standards;
  • Clean and paint SS meters in areas with less than six (<6) meters in the daily assigned area in accordance with PABC health and safety standards;
  • Contact a supervisor or team leader with any issues or concerns as they happen;
  • Anticipate and request materials needed prior to running out;
  • Record work completed and/or in-process at the end of each shift;
  • Maintains open communication with peers and management on tasks, and with the general public as needed;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received and Exercised

This position works under the direction of a supervisor or team lead and uses specific procedures to meet job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel experience preferred.
  • Basic transportation and city parking elements preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software to record data (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Basic Customer Service skills when interacting with the public in the field;
  • Ability to provide solutions to a limited range of problems;
  • Ability to work independently with specific guidance and with others;
  • Ability to understand instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements

The position frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping and bending. The office environment is conducive with regulated office temperatures and lighting. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required. The out-of-office environment is conducive to outdoor weather conditions.
