JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform any combination of following duties: raise, place, and connect girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks while working as member of crew according to the layouts or blueprints. These duties must be performed in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible.


Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.

Fasten (rig) steel members to cable to hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.

Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.

Guide member using tag line (rope) in order to guide it into position.

Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.

Force member into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.

Align bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of spud wrench through holes.

Verify vertical and horizontal alignments of members, using plumb bob and level.

Bolt aligned members to keep in position until they can be permanently bolted, or welded into place.

Cut and weld steel members to make alterations. Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Maintain work area in clean and tidy manner.


MUST Live in Baltimore City. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the field.

Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand directions.

Must be able to utilize basic math and read a tape ruler.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment, and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.

Must be able to work at heights of 200 feet.
