POSITION OVERIEW

Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks is seeking to hire Custodians to work in one of our multiple facilities located throughout Baltimore City. In general, a Community Aide/Custodian performs a wide range of cleaning and building maintenance duties in and outside one of our multiple recreation centers or special facilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from an administrative superior. Employees work Monday through Friday for a 8 hour work shift with a 40 minute unpaid lunch period. Work may be performed in uncomfortable surroundings, occasionally encountering such conditions as dust, odors, and inclement weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all these examples depending on the scope of work and where the individual is assigned within the agency. This list is not inclusive. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the agency.
• Vacuum, sweeps, cleans dusts, and waxes floors in a public building.
• Cleans bathrooms from floor to ceiling, including sinks, stalls, and toilets.
• Cleans windows, inside and out.
• Removes trash, snow, and ice from sidewalks, lots, steps, and outside perimeter of city owned property.
• Loads and unloads materials and supplies.
• Sets up chairs, tables and athletic and show equipment.
• May perform or assist with minor interior painting and minor carpentry duties.
• Changes light bulbs and neon tubes.
• May perform or assist with minor mechanical adjustments or equipment repairs in response to customer requests.
• Performs related work as required.
